I gotta talk about Zack Snyder's Justice League

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

I know it’s been a while. I know, I promised a couple reviews, but ay, life’s been CRAZY. That’s for another blog coming this week though.

First, I need to talk about Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

When I heard he was going to be able to finish his vision for the movie, I was happy for him, because he has been through a lot since filming that movie, back in 2016. However, I didn’t really care, because I didn’t think it would be much different, than the piece of shit that the even bigger piece of shit, Joss Whedon released, following Snyder’s departure from the movie.

I was very, very wrong though.

A little back story… I’ve been a comic book nerd since I was little. Star Wars, Marvel, and DC have always been some of my favorite pieces of entertainment, deadass. For those who know me, you know I be going on for hours about Star Wars.

As a kid it was no different for DC. Now, I’ll be honest… my favorite superhero of all-time is… Superman!

SIKEEEEEEE! I actually dislike Superman most the time.

Batman, duh, Batman is my favorite superhero of all-time, why?

Batman is the only hero to beat Superman… TWICE. The man knows over 120 styles of martial arts, he is fucking badass, and all the ladies love him (except RACHEL!)

Whatever though, she kinda lame.

ANYWAY!

As a kid, my mom sat me down to watch the animated series that DC put out, let me tell you. It is easily the BEST DC content out there and arguably the best comic book content out there, in general. My ass would sit down and watch Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman, Batman Beyond, etc.

(THIS EPISODE SHOWS WHY BATMAN IS LITERALLY THE GOAT SUPERHERO. DEADASS SO SAD, BRUH!!!!)

That is what Zack Snyder loved too. So, he wanted to make DC movies, which he has. Now, I will say he has a very specific style to him and people either LOVE it or HATE it. He goes with what he wants to do, which is what him and Warner Bros. had issues on.

I believe DC has the best heroes and they would beat Marvel. I love Marvel movies more, because they are executed 1000x times better than 90% of DC movies.

Bro DC has rushed their whole universe to try and catch up to Marvel. When they should just be going at their own pace and being original in how they approach these movies. Zack Snyder has always done that. He did it with Watchmen, 300, Man of Steel, Superman v Batman, and lastly Justice League. Now, overall the reaction from fans have been pretty split. Like I said earlier, Snyder has a specific style. You either love it or hate it. However, with Zack Snyder’s Justice League it was different. A majority of fans at least liked it, if not loved it.

I personally loved it. I believe he does all the characters justice (A HA HA). He captures the personalities of each superhero beautifully. It is sad that this will be the last project by him in the DC universe.

Don’t get me wrong. It has its flaws… it’s four hours long, like BRUH. However, as this would be Snyder’s lasting legacy he went out with a sonic boom. Each hero is fleshed out and it is clear that they all have their individual issues going on, but at a time where the symbol of Hope is dead and Earth on the verge of an apocalypse, these heroes’ band together to defeat Steppenwolf.

The thing Marvel does seamlessly is add humor. However, it comes off naturally and most the time it never seems forced. Except in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but if you look at who directed that movie and directed the first Justice League, then you’ll see why.

The action scenes in this movie are so much better and just really show off the abilities these heroes have, especially Flash. I was not excited at all for Ezra Miller’s, solo movie. But after ZSJL I am ready to see more of the fastest man alive.

The cinematography of this movie is truly on a grand scale. It helps show the bigger picture of what is at stake. The score is great and helps elevate the story. The acting is good as well. I honestly love Ben Affleck as Batman. When I think of Justice League Unlimited and the Batman series, I see Kevin Conroy and his representation of the Dark Knight and Ben Affleck is the closest live action representation. Now, I still believe Christian Bale is the superior Batman, but that’s because I feel like I haven’t seen enough Batfleck, yet.

Affleck was set to direct, write, and be a producer on his solo Batman movie, but with WB going in a different direction we most likely won’t see that happen, which is sad because I do believe he could have been the best Batman.

As for Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot was made for this role. If she has a good script and direction, then she can elevate Diana Prince to the same level seen in the animated series’.

Now, for a character I really did not care for much before the ZSJL, Cyborg, played by Ray Fisher, who was treated like shit on set by Joss Whedon. He is the most human character in this movie. Snyder did a wonderful job writing him. Fisher did a marvelous job playing him.

Jason Mamoa. The dude is a fucking TANK. PERFECT Aquaman. Not much else to say other than I wish I could be as badass as him.

Lastly, Superman. The most powerful being. Yet, he died. Look as I said before. I’ve never really been a fan of Superman. He’s just a bitch to me. BUT… I do like Henry Cavill’s representation of good ol Superman aka Clark Kent. Henry Cavill is literally a god. I’ll be honest, he’s a beautiful man. He makes him bearable and not as annoying. I just want more Cavill as Superman. On a unrelated note… Cavill pulls off an amazing mustache.

Overall, I really liked ZSJL because it seemed true to the comics and the animated series. It’s a shame we probably won’t see the rest of Snyder’s vision.

HA HA HA HEE HEE HO HOO HA… you thought I wouldn’t bring up the epilogue.

Batman and the JOKER (baby)! I’ll be honest. This is probably the best Leto could do as Joker and I still don’t give a SHIT about him playing the Joker. The dream sequence as a whole is dope as fuck. I really do want to see that play out. PLUS, Deathstroke and Batman team up?! DUDE FUCK YEAH!

GIVE ME THE SLOP!

I give Zack Snyder’s Justice League an 81/100.

I mean he did his job, he made me give a fuck about these characters again. He made me want rewatch all the animated series’, which I did. SHITTTT, I made a TikTok about Justice League Unlimited and it blew up. Over 130k views. Go check it out. @red__creative on TikTok.

P.S. I’ll be releasing a blog this week about why I haven’t written many blogs since my move to Austin in January. It’ll be personal and I hope you all understand.

PLEASE keep supporting RED Creatives. It really is my passion project. I know you all will see one day why I put so much effort into it. Stay safe.
